Donald Miller

Donald Miller is a former chair of the department, and a former chair of the Seattle City Planning Commission. His major focus is land use and infrastructure planning. Much of Miller’s recent work deals with assessing the results of urban planning under the state growth management act, development and use of sustainability indicators, multicriteria evaluation, and methods of assessing the fairness of alternative plans and programs. Miller co-founded and chairs the International Urban Planning and Environment Association that in 2016 held its 12th international symposium in Lisbon. Two of his recent books are Urban Environmental Planning, and Beyond Benefit Cost Analysis. He co-edits the Urban Planning and Environment book series for Routledge Press. Miller is currently investigating ways to address happiness through urban planning.
